What Not to Wear in Barcelona

I’m officially more than halfway through my time here in Barcelona (holding back the tears) and while that is sad in itself, I have finally learned how to appropriately dress for classes, clubs, bars, and dinners.

I share this from the bottom of my heart because one of the most tragic things that can happen in the amazing city is your taxi confusing you for a prostitute.

So, I bring you another one of my lists. I now present you my list of what to and what not to wear while staying in Barcelona.

*Featuring me and my roommates outfits*

  1. DO NOT WEAR crop top, short skirts, and heels to the club.

While this feels like the typical “clubbing” outfit in the States, I beg you not to do it here. Women dress adequately modestly, and people will wonder why you are wearing such scandalous outfits, reveling your body. My go to club outfit is my silk black dress with either really trendy sneakers, or my doc martens.

DO WEAR dresses with boots/sneakers
My go to club outfit is a black spaghetti strap silk dress with either really trendy sneakers, or my doc martens. It’s simple its easy and its breathable because the clubs here can get very hot.

2.DO NOT WEAR leggings in public.
Something you'll see while strolling around in Barcelona is that the city is sleek  without making a decent attempt. What you wear in the house/gym versus what   you wear in public is a big difference and you will get weird looks walking around the street in house clothes. Always try to dress to impress even if you don’t feel like it.

DO WEAR breathable fabrics, trendy hats, and printed tops and bottoms.
Linen pants are perfect for when it’s hot and humid, and while It begins to get cold mom jeans, boyfriend jeans, and several other pants are recommended. My go to school outfit is some sort of jeans a big sweater or a t-shirt and sneakers or boots.

3. DO NOT WEAR short shorts (for girls)
Besides the fact that short shorts above the age of 18 is a little weird its not lady like in Barcelona and again is sending the wrong message. Instead of short shorts there are several different options

DO WEAR
Loose jean shorts, linen shorts, dresses, skirts, and linen pants. Not only will these keep you cooler Barcelona requires a lot of walking and short shorts are not comfortable to wear while doing this.

While these are just my 3 big advices I also leave you with some places AT HOME you can shop at in order to prepare you for Barcelona.

1.Urban Outfitters its basically catered to European fashion so anything in the store will be perfect (CO-ED)
2.Brandy Melville comfy cute outfits and light breathable fabrics are there genre so make sure to check it out (for girls)
3.Zara this is also perfect because they are always trendy and have a wide variety of colors (CO-ED)
4.Champion, I don’t know how big these are in the states besides NYC but they have very urban street wear that is popular in Barcelona as well (CO-ED)
