Explore the Day of a Study Abroad Student Interning in London’s Public Relations Sector

Welcome to a day in the life of interning in London! I intern for a PR agency that represents lifestyle and apparel brands that fall in the sustainable and luxury market. I work a full day in the office from 9am-6pm on Mondays and Fridays and I work remotely on Tuesdays to work with my class schedule.

A Typical Day in My Life as an Intern:

I start my day by waking up around 7:20am and getting ready with my roommates.

A view from high above of a number of buildings in a city

Good morning, London! My favorite part of my study abroad experience thus far has been the view from my apartment.

I leave my apartment around 8:20am and head to the tube station. My internship is located in Islington which is roughly a 40-minute commute.

I take two trains and then walk twenty minutes to the office. The idea of public transit scared me at first and seemed very overwhelming, but it is so much easier than it looks!

A view from the top of an escalator heading down to the ground

Going down the huge escalator to get on my second tube of the morning. Some lines run really far down under the ground.

The tube gets pretty full during popular commute hours like 8am and 6pm so you can get a little squished!

My walk once I get off the tube is one of my favorite parts of the workday, especially if it's sunny.

A church on a city street

Walking past St. Peters church on the rest of my commute to my internship.

Once I arrive at the office, I head upstairs to say good morning to my coworkers. I work with three other women which makes for a very fun office environment. The office is very conversational and fun and we listen to music all day while we work.

My office is in the European equivalent of a business park, Cannonbury Yard, so it is tucked away off the main street with cafes.

My main task for the day is sending out pitches to our editorial databases. In between emails, I collect requested samples to ship them out to stylists and book the carriers. On work-from-home days I research influencers to represent our brands, potential new brands, and editor contacts.

A highlight of my internship is that when the agency has leftover inventory from previous brands we get to take it home! The day I shot these pictures was one of those days and it was so exciting.

This is the inside of my office. This was an inventory day so we were putting away the new collections.

I typically leave the office around 6pm and head back home using the bus instead of walking to the tube station. I enjoy using the bus at night because I get to see the city lit up. Because I chose to take the bus and the tube it typically only takes me about thirty minutes to get home.

Some days I decide to head to the grocery store after work. The little market I shop at is so convenient to get some snacks from at the end of the day.

After taking the tube back to my side of the city, I decided I needed to head to the grocery store.

I typically spend the rest of the night with my roommates. We enjoy sharing our days and hearing each other's highlights. I end off my night with a movie or TV show to wind down.

It is still crazy to think this is my life for the next two months. I love my internship; I feel like I was placed in a role that suits me well. Studying in London has been my dream forever and I feel so lucky every day I get to experience the places and people that I do.
