Exploring Cities as Classrooms During a Semester Studying Abroad in Rome, Italy

Studying abroad with CEA CAPA allows students to take courses in a multitude of academic disciplines. With courses ranging from business to ethics to psychology to philosophy to language to history, everyone can find classes that are of interest to them. CEA CAPA also makes it easy for students to build a course schedule that optimizes time to travel within their host country or to other cities and countries.

With a plethora of courses offered, students can choose to enroll in courses dedicated to their major and minor studies or elect to take more specialized courses related to their host country. In Rome, courses like Food & Culture in Italy, Rome Across Ages: Art & Architecture in the Eternal City and Social History of the Italian Mafia are just a few of the specialized courses offered.

For example, I am enrolled in Rome Across Ages: Art & Architecture in the Eternal City where we visit different churches and museums to learn about art history in Rome.

These courses allow us students to become more immersed in our host city while learning about the history and culture of our study abroad home.

CEA CAPA academics also provide students with resources outside the classroom such as immersive and educational class trips, including one to a local food market for my Food & Culture in Italy class.

When studying abroad, academics are an integral part of the experience. Having the opportunity to take classes that may not be offered at students’ home institutions is a huge advantage to studying abroad. In my case, using the city as our classroom, we are exposed to new methods of teaching and learning while taking in all the sights, culture, and history of Rome. It is an opportunity to delve into a new academic landscape, one that challenges and enriches the pursuit of knowledge.
