For one of our last excursions, CEA took us to the island of Tabarca off of Alicante! With only 30 people inhabiting the island, the island doesn’t take long to walk through. We began our day by meeting at the port where our Kontiki boat picked us up! The boat trip is about 45 minutes long, and we sat on the top of the boat to overlook the Mediterranean sea below us.
Upon arrival, we disembarked and began our adventures of Tabarca Island. First, our advisor, Adriana, took us on a walking tour explaining some of the history and monuments of the island, including old arches, buildings, and sun clocks. After walking through town for a few minutes, we headed back toward the beach for lunch! We had an amazing assembly of salad, bread, paella, and fruit for dessert!
After a delicious, filling lunch, we walked toward the “new part” of Tabarca, which has beautiful open fields overlooking the water. So what did we do in the open fields? We had a random dance party to our favorite song of the semester… “Let’s Get Loud” by Jennifer Lopez. During our free time, we relaxed on the beach and swam in the sea for a bit. A little later, we were off again, heading back to the coast of Alicante!
Tabarca is a gem that is worth the day trip, especially in its close proximity to Alicante.
