I knew I wanted to travel to other countries while studying abroad, but didn’t have any set plans before getting there. My roommate mentioned that she wanted to go to Italy, and it didn’t take much convincing before I was sold. Our very first stop was Milan. Here are some of my favorite highlights:
Pizza
This is the first time I had authentic Italian pizza. I had no idea of what to expect, but it was great! When you order pizza, you don’t get it by the slice; you get a whole pizza pie. I also noticed that everyone was eating it with a knife and fork instead of picking it up, so I did the same. Italian pizza did not disappoint!
Piazza del Doumo
The plaza is great even if you only go to see the Duomo di Milano. It’s the largest church in Italy, and it's magnificent both outside and inside. If shopping is on your mind, there are several galleries to pique your interest.
Sforzesco Castle
This castle was built in the 15th century and is an awesome fortress in the middle of the city. I spent several hours here exploring the architecture and history -- and if you have more time, make sure to go to Parco Sempione. You can enjoy a leisurely stroll, view the many sculptures, and see the Arco della Pace.
