Intern Spotlight: Emily Leamy

Emily is a rising senior from Spartanburg, South Carolina. Savvy in business marketing, and equipped with a background in the arts, Emily was paired with the perfect internship at an international wine company. The company works with several different wines from 50 countries around the world. Funny enough, not one of those countries is France. Emily enjoyed that she got a chance to work as the Communications Intern at a small business that operated as a wine shop, a tasting room, as well as an event space. She worked on developing a communications plan for the firm, managing the company's social media, and producing event flyers using her layout and graphic design skills. Her internship was especially unique in that she got to participate in the wine tasting events, and learn the full story behind the bottles through meeting winemakers from South Africa, Italy, etc. Emily acknowledged that many people may find oenology intimidating, but learned from the business that there really is no right or wrong when it comes to what a person tastes.

"It’s kind of like going to an art gallery. Everyone has a different process and you can take it in any way you want."

What Emily ultimately appreciated the most was the responsibility that her co- workers entrusted in her. She felt that she had a lot of creative flexibility to work with.

Emily is an Integrated Marketing & Communications major at Winthrop University. She studied Abroad in Paris in the Summer of 2017  and is a CEA Alumni Ambassador.
