New Flair in an Old City

Prague is one of the most picturesque cities in the world. Much of this is due to its spectacularly preserved architecture. I spent my first day in the city trying to pin point which mystical stories the scenery looked most like– Sleeping Beauty, Once Upon A Time, Harry Potter? There are immaculate churches, colorful mosaics, cobble stone streets, and baroque towers piercing the sky everywhere.

All in all, this city is ancient and filled with centuries of rich history. However, over the last century there have been some extremely modern influences that are speckled throughout the city. There are some very styled and contemporary sculptures and pieces of architecture that have become more and more prevalent within Prague.  One sculptor in particular, David Cerny, has his pieces displayed all throughout the city and is especially recognized for his works of gigantic crawling babies with zippers on their faces. It is fun to see little pieces of the present day scattered all throughout Prague to contrast drastically against one of Bohemia’s oldest cities to ever exist. The stark difference almost serves as a reminder of how far back the history of this place dates.
