Course options at the CEA CAPA Prague Study Center span a variety of subject areas and include options in business, engineering, cultural studies, political science, communication, and sustainability. Semester students will also enroll in a 1-credit Czech Culture and Language course that is delivered in cooperation with Charles University. This course is designed to foster a deeper understanding of local Czech life and will provide you with an introduction to the Czech language. Charles University was founded in 1348 and is considered one of the best-rated Czech universities according to international rankings.. The university consists of 17 colleges and enrolls more than 50,000 students. Faculties and departments are spread throughout Prague - as a CEA CAPA student you’ll take courses at the Faculty of Arts’s Eastern and Central European Studies Department (ECES), located in Prague’s Old Town district.
The coursework is designed specifically for international undergraduate students and allows you to explore a variety of subject areas, including Literature, Art and Culture, History, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Politics, Languages, and more. All courses, with the exception of Czech language, are taught in English.
Credit Transfer Information
CEA CAPA credit hour recommendations are based on the following conversion: 15 contact hours equals 1 U.S. credit. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Students receive a transcript from Charles University upon successful completion of the program. The transcript reflects contact hours.

Charles University is recognized by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports as a degree granting institution in the Czech Republic.
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.
Please note that CEA CAPA can only recommend grade conversions to students’ home institutions—it is ultimately at the discretion of the home institution to convert grades from abroad to students’ academic records.

Classroom and Information
- Charles University faculty is international and experienced in integrating American and European students in an American-style learning environment.
- Attendance is mandatory and monitored by professors and Charles University academic staff.
- Average class size is approximately 19 students and classes are capped at 28 students. Some specialized classes may be smaller; some general courses may be slightly larger.
- CEA CAPA students attend classes alongside other international students. The student body typically represents 60 different nationalities.

CEA CAPA Prague Center
The CEA CAPA Prague Center is located in the historic Old Town district. Courses give you the opportunity to further your academic pursuits in a variety of subjects with Prague as your classroom.
Courses bring the diverse history, politics, culture, economics, and art of the Czech Republic to life, incorporating components that expose you to different elements of Prague, from monuments and museums to businesses, local food markets, and government agencies. You’ll be encouraged to explore on your own and draw connections between the subjects you study and the observations you make outside of the classroom. Not only will you get to know your host city, you’ll also gain insight into how the Czech Republic fits into the larger European context.

Courses at the CEA CAPA Prague Center are transcripted by the University of New Haven (UNH), CEA CAPA’s School of Record.
Accreditation
Courses taught at the CEA CAPA Prague Center have been designed in conjunction with, and approved by, the University of New Haven (UNH). In addition, faculty appointments have been approved by UNH. After the successful completion of a session at the CEA CAPA Prague Center, you will receive credit for your work from UNH. Located in Connecticut, the University of New Haven is a student-focused, comprehensive university that’s fully accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The agreement between CEA CAPA and UNH follows the highest standards of good practice in education abroad and satisfies the rigorous requirements of the University's institutional accreditor, making credits earned at the CEA CAPA Prague Center easily transferable to US-accredited institutions. Grading
Professors at the CEA CAPA Prague Center carefully evaluate student's work and progress throughout their academic session. When calculating final grades, instructors consider written and oral exercises, homework assignments, attendance, classroom participation, and exam performance.

Classroom and Information
- Classes are taught by international faculty.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- You’ll attend class with other CEA CAPA students.
- The maximum class size is 25 students for language courses and 25 students for electives. Small class sizes mean more personalized attention from your instructors.

Program Structure & Courses
You’ll enroll in a 1-credit Czech Culture and Language course through Charles University and will also enroll in 4-5 CEA CAPA courses. The Culture and Language course meets for 15 contact hours/1 semester credit, and CEA CAPA courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 semester credits each. Overall, students may earn a total of 13-16 semester credits (up to 240 contact hours).
Courses typically meet once a week Monday – Friday, and active learning components required by your course will be scheduled during regular class meeting times.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses. You will be enrolled into courses based on availability and further changes can be made during the add/drop period at the beginning of the semester. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions.
