Additional Internship Documents (As Requested)

Please note, your Spanish proficiency will be assessed, and you will need to submit your Resume and Statement of Interest in English and Spanish.
We recommend a minimum of 5 semesters of Spanish for this program. Some Placements may require native Spanish or native English fluency or equivalent due to internship responsibilities. If you are a native Spanish speaker, we highly encourage you to communicate and showcase this within the application process.
You may be required to submit additional documents, depending on the needs of your CEA CAPA Global Internship Program. A CEA CAPA representative will reach out to you after you have submitted your initial application to collect any additional documents we might need.
These additional documents may include, but are not limited to:
  • A professional portfolio
  • Letters of recommendation
  • Police Background checks: If you are applying for a placement working with vulnerable populations or children, or if CEA CAPA identifies a placement opportunity with or connected to such an organization, most likely you will be required to complete a police background check in the US and the host country for certain locations.

Program Structure & Courses

You’ll enroll in an internship seminar course that includes an academic seminar and an internship placement. Based on your Spanish language level, you'll also enroll in:

  • Beginner to Advanced: 2 Spanish language courses and 2-3 elective courses
  • High-Advanced & Superior: 1 Spanish language course and 3-4 elective courses
  • Proficient: 4-5 elective courses

Language and elective courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. Your internship seminar meets for 2 seminar hours and you'll spend 40 immersion hours at your internship placement. Together, your seminar and internship placement are worth 2 credits.

You may earn up to 18 credits (up to 265 contact hours); if you choose the Early Start option, you may earn up to 23 credits (up to 345 contact hours) in Fall Semester and up to 21 credits (325 contact hours) in Spring Semester.

Language and elective courses generally meet on Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday; intensive language prep courses meet Monday-Friday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled on Friday. Your internship placement hours may take place Monday-Friday; the exact time of day and days of the week will be determined after you arrive.

We strongly recommend that you apply as soon as possible. Internship positions are both limited in availability and competitive; employers give priority to those who submit early! The majority of internships require a telephone or in-person interview with the employer before placement is confirmed. CEA CAPA makes every effort to confirm placements by two weeks prior to the program start date at the latest, however, in some cases placements may be confirmed upon arrival. We'll do our best, but we can't guarantee placement at a particular site.

Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses. You'll take a language placement exam after you arrive in Granada. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Spain. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
