About the Program
Immerse into a Spanish learning environment and local culture in Spain's capital. Semester programs are designed for students from beginner to advanced Spanish language levels. Choose to take all semester courses in Spanish at the Universidad Antonio de Nebrija, allowing you to gain both language proficiency and a deeper understanding of local culture – or combine Spanish courses with English electives offered through the CEA CAPA Madrid Center. An Early Start option (available to semester students only) helps you jump-start your Spanish. You'll improve your language skills and your knowledge of Spanish culture and history. In the summer, you may choose to complement your Spanish language course with an elective course taught in either Spanish or English.

Universidad Antonio de Nebrija
With an annual student population of about 5,000, Universidad Antonio de Nebrija prides itself on being "the smallest of the great Spanish universities." This highly ranked private university was founded in 1995 and named after the first grammarian of the Spanish language. In 1492, Nebrija presented the first-ever Spanish grammar book to Queen Isabel; today, teaching Spanish as a foreign language is a key activity, and the Center of Hispanic Studies at Nebrija is dedicated exclusively to Spanish language training.
In addition to Spanish language and Hispanic Studies, the university also offers a wide range of academic subjects taught in Spanish and English, such as art history, cultural studies, political science, and sociology. Courses are instructed by Antonio de Nebrija faculty through Centro de Estudios Hispánicos. Nebrija's small student population allows for personal attention and specialized studies.
Credit Transfer Information
Universidad Antonio de Nebrija awards credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) system. CEA CAPA credit hour recommendations are based on the following conversion: 2 ECTS credits equals 1 U.S. semester credit. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Students receive a transcript from Universidad Antonio de Nebrija upon successful completion of the program. The transcript reflects ECTS credits.

Universidad Antonio de Nebrija is recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education as a degree-granting institution of higher learning.
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.
Please note that CEA CAPA can only recommend grade conversions to students’ home institutions—it is ultimately at the discretion of the home institution to convert grades from abroad to students’ academic records.

Classroom and Information
- International faculty teach language courses and electives.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- Teaching styles in Spain may differ from those in the U.S. Be prepared to adapt to your school’s classroom structures and coursework expectations.
- Class size ranges between 10 and 20 students. Small class sizes mean personalized attention from instructors.
- You will attend class with international students from the U.S., Europe, Canada, and other parts of the world. Due to the superior mastery of the language required, you will not be in classes with host national students.

Program Structure & Courses
Choose a 4-week session in June, July, or combine both. Each session, you'll enroll in 1 language course and 1 elective course, taught in your choice of Spanish or English. Each course meets for 45 contact hours/3 credits. Students in the 4-week session earn a total of 6 credits (up to 90 contact hours); students that combine sessions earn a total of 12 credits (up to 180 contact hours).
Classes meet Monday-Friday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take an online language placement exam to determine your language level. You'll be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home school pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Spain. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines

Located in different neighborhoods in the city of Madrid, with convenient commute to different areas in the city, as well to the study center or the internship location. These apartments cater perfectly to independent, do-it-yourself type students who want to experience Madrid just as the local Madrileños do. Cook tasty tortilla española with your roommates in your kitchen, explore the personality of the neighborhood that surrounds you and make your new Spanish apartment a home.

All CEA CAPA students studying in Madrid have the option of living in a residencia while abroad. Residencias are off-campus accommodations located in the city of Madrid that house approximately 200 students. This housing option caters perfectly to students who want the peace and independence of having their own bedroom. The kitchen may be private and inside the bedroom or shared with the other students at the Residencia. Other common spaces are available. Living in a residencia will help students to immerse themselves in Spanish University life and culture and to be part of a huge University community, meeting national and international students.
Please note that Residencia A and Residencia B are not the same Residencia - they are located in different areas of the city. There may be more than one Residencia for each type. Please note that within the same Residencia rooms might not be contiguous or in the same floor and might be spread out within the Residencia.

Living in a residencia will help students to immerse themselves in Spanish University life and culture and to be part of a huge University community, meeting national and international students.

Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.
