Required Supplies: During orientation, students will receive a list of textbooks they are required to purchase. Students will be expected to provide their own supplies from a supply list. Instructors will supply the lists during the first week of classes. Students should not purchase any texts and/or supplies before orientation.
DESCRIPTION
This course will introduce students to jewelry making through working with non-ferrous metals such as copper, brass and silver. No previous experience with metalworking is needed, class demonstrations will allow for students to gain an understanding of techniques before students apply them to samples and pieces. Some of the techniques to be covered in the course include: soldering, basic stone setting, chain making, small scale forming and wax carving. All techniques will build upon each other to offer students a collective knowledge of how to create and construct their jewelry designs. The projects to be completed in this course will be, but are not limited to: a series of rings with stone settings, bracelet, necklace and earrings.
