Some small but very important skills that my friends and I have learned and embraced (whether we wanted to or not) was how to stretch every dime when traveling, and how to keep up with schoolwork when we’re in a different country almost every weekend., When at my home university, I’ve never had the challenge of prioritizing homework during the week because I had a trip to France (or Germany, or Portugal, or Ireland, etc.) planned for the weekend., These are some things that I was more or less forced to do to ensure I’d have enough money for the trips to come., Every morning, a highlight of my day is chatting with the baristas about their weekend while they make my café con leche order (which they know by heart).
https://www.ceastudyabroad.com/blog/content-creator/2018/12/12/the-small-things-i'll-never-forget-about-madridAfter four months of having my own personal traveling experiences around Europe and four months of hearing about other students'experiences as well, I have become a pro at the art of creating the perfect weekend excursion., Although it's really easy to plan your trips the first week while abroad and have everything planned for the rest of your semester, make sure that you plan trips with people that have traveling interests that correlate with yours., Even if taking a bus to one city, flying from that city, and then taking another bus from that city to your destination saves you money, remember that the time it took for that whole process is time you will lose from the already short weekend that you have available.
https://www.ceastudyabroad.com/blog/content-creator/2015/05/13/how-to-travel-abroad-while-already-being-abroadI have gone on two trips with CEA so far., Just this last week I went on a winery & vineyard tour near the city of Sitges and a few weeks ago I went on a weekend trip to Valencia, Spain., One of the most stressful parts of weekend traveling is all of the planning and logistics.
https://www.ceastudyabroad.com/blog/content-creator/2018/05/30/who-doesn't-love-a-personal-trip-planner-and-tour-guideIn the beginning of my trip, I planned every activity of every day and our trips for the most part went smoothly but they did not leave any room for unpredictability., Going to a different city every weekend is not possible, logistically it just doesn't work and then you would never get to experience your home city., Yes, taking weekend trips are great and you should try to get to many places, but don't feel like you are wasting your time if you have a relaxed weekend at home.
https://www.ceastudyabroad.com/blog/content-creator/2016/07/06/you're-nextIn fact, they mainly focus on traveling and figuring out what country they want to spend their next weekend in., Classes at CEA are offered Monday through Thursday, leaving Fridays open for an extra day on the weekend to travel and experience your host city., Depending on the activity, they are scheduled on weeknights, as day trips, or overnight trips on the weekend., This past weekend was our excursion to Firenze., I really enjoy going on excursions and trips with CEA staff and all of the CEA students.

https://www.ceastudyabroad.com/blog/content-creator/2016/06/01/frontier-farmBefore I left to study abroad in Italy, I set a study abroad budget for myself to include the necessities like travel, groceries, and other essentials, but I also made sure to allow myself some fun money for impromptu trips with roommates, nights out in the city, and nice meals shared with good company., I allotted money for weekend trips with my roommates, one of such trips was a long weekend to beautiful Sicily., On one weekend trip with my roommates to Lake Como and Venice, I had a bad case of expecting everything to be perfect.
https://www.ceastudyabroad.com/blog/content-creator/2024/01/29/first-generation-student's-guide-to-studying-abroad-in-romeWhile studying abroad, it is tempting to travel every weekend because all the cool cities and countries you have always heard about are only a cheap plane or train away., Lucky for me, about the time I started to feel like I needed to slow down on my spending for trips, CEA took all its students on two trips which were included in the cost of tuition., While these trips were not technically “free trips,” by the time the trips came around the money spent on tuition 3 months back wasn’t in the forefront of my mind., CEA plans these weekend and day trips to try to immerse them to the country they are studying in, since most students spend their weekends in other countries around Europe., This is why they also did trips around Italy for each specific class earlier on in the semester!
