Life of an Exchange Student in the French Riviera

What It’s like to Study Abroad in the South of France

Studying abroad is probably one of the most challenging yet rewarding things you could ever do. This opportunity provides amazing memories that will last a lifetime and opens your eyes to a whole new world that you never knew existed. When deciding to go abroad, I would have never imagined the new things I would learn not only through life in the French Riviera but also throughout my academics here.

Throughout my academics abroad, I have not only been able to grow further in my education but also in my knowledge of French culture. Although all my courses are in English, I have been able to learn more about France and the language as most of the students in my courses are French. They have not only helped me learn French but have also helped me become more acquainted with the town of Antibes and the country as a whole. Through my courses, I have been able to meet some friends who are locals here who I will keep in contact with for the rest of my life.

One thing that has been different from my courses in the U.S. is that the classes here only take place once a week for a three-hour period. This has been different, yet beneficial to me, as it has allowed me to be productive outside of class and explore areas nearby. These differences that I have experienced between attending university in the States and university here have allowed me to grow and change my mind set to adapt to new cultures which have pushed me out of my comfort zone.

Another thing that is different is the transportation to school. In the U.S., I normally walk to campus or drive my car. However, here we take the bus which is free and commonly used. The bus has allowed me to embrace the culture more as I interact with locals.

Studying abroad has definitely been something that I will always remember. My experiences here will be with me for the rest of my life. I highly recommend studying abroad if presented with the opportunity, it will change you for the better!
