My Most Memorable Experiences While Studying Abroad in Barcelona, Spain
In my time abroad, I experienced cultures so different from my own and have learned about the many varying ways of life, food, and traditions of another country. Studying abroad in Barcelona has shown me the beauty of a lifestyle of simplicity and humility, largely centered around community. Some of the most unforgettable experiences have been through a simple walk around the city or through meeting new people when visiting a new cafe or restaurant. It is through these seemingly everyday experiences that I have been able to truly immerse myself in the local culture.

In this photo set, I hope to convey the day-to-day moments in my time as a study abroad student as something worthwhile and extremely impactful to my global perspective moving forward. Not only have I had the opportunity to admire the stunning art and architecture of the city, but I have been able to witness firsthand the beauty in every park, avenue, and local business.

Additionally, I have gained a deeper appreciation for Catalan culture while in Barcelona, learning of the many things that make it unique through its food, values, and tight-knit community. Through trying authentic foods such as crema catalana and jamón ibérico, my appreciation for Catalan cuisine has only deepened, as every restaurant has its own specialties to choose from.

I have also come to love the way that community is embedded in both the culture of Barcelona, and in the surrounding areas that I have been able to travel to.
For example, while visiting Porto, Portugal, I was especially impacted by the simple, yet rich sense of community that is evident throughout the entire city. I remember walking down the streets and being greeted by live music and local dances, as people gathered together with strangers to enjoy the moment.

Similarly, in Barcelona, I have been able to immerse myself through both everyday experiences and through eventful experiences such as cheering on the local Barcelona soccer team and participating in the many Carnival festivities throughout Catalonia.

Overall, I feel that my experiences studying abroad have helped me to appreciate the little things, learning to value my time spent with the company of those around me—something that I will take with me and apply to my daily life back home.
