Eight-week study abroad and internship student Macy Birden joins us here in Paris from Texas A&M for the summer. A typical day during the week for Macy consists of going to the boulangerie next to her apartment, where she enjoys the irresistible French pastries before heading to the CEA Study Center, where she takes her course: Haute Couture in Paris. After a quick bite for lunch, she heads to her internship for the rest of the day.
Macy interns at Theraclion, which specializes in high-tech medical devices that help break up breast tumors, thyroid nodules, varicose veins, and breast cancer. Some of the tasks that Macy does on a day-to-day basis include doing United States and worldwide market research for multiple new products, as well as creating content for the company's Spanish website.
A goal Macy has for doing an internship abroad includes gaining experience in an international workplace. By taking in the culture and learning new things from her colleagues, Macy is on the right track for accomplishing her goal.
Through this experience, Macy has improved her professional skills and engaged with a diverse set of people. She appreciates the sense of inclusiveness in her workplace and throughout the city.
"Paris has a big idea of progress and equality and that is something that I value so much," she says. "Getting to see it right in front of me has taught me so much about people."
Though there is so much to see and do, Macy prides herself on time management. She is able to balance her homework, internship commitment, travel on the weekends, and explore the city. Unlike anything she has ever experienced, the decision to come study and do an internship in Paris is certainly one that Macy doesn't regret!
