A Seville Semester: My Homestay & Daily Routine

Living in Seville is a dream. When I decided to study abroad, I knew I wanted to have the most authentic experience possible. I chose to study in a small city to immerse myself in the culture and really get to know the people. Seville is unique in the sense that the city seems small and big at the same time. You have the opportunity to experience the excitement of living in a larger city, but in the most charming way the city maintains a feeling that reminds you of home.

Every morning, I wake up and make myself a slice of toast and a small cup of coffee. I always make sure to give myself extra time to walk to class because I like to take a different route to school every day. My typical walk to school is about 25 minutes, and during that time I marvel at the Torre del Oro and the array of flowers beginning to bloom during spring in Seville. Often, I will stop and pet the horses outside of Hotel Alfonso or sit on a bench in the park that sits outside of the walls of the Alcazar before heading into CEA.

Following my short days of class, I head home for lunch. My host mom, Concha, provides breakfast, lunch and dinner for my roommate and me everyday. On today’s menu, she serves mushrooms stuffed with spinach and garlic -- a simple meal, but absolutely delicious! Eating the local cuisine in Seville has been one of my favorite parts of studying abroad. Where there is food you can find family, bond through conversation, and most importantly, practice your Spanish skills!
