Academics at SKEMA vs Washington State University

CEA French Class #1

On the first day of classes, I only had my French class. At the beginning of my second week of classes, I had yet to experience any other courses aside from Elementary French 2. That Monday, September 10th, I had an 8:00 am class that would last until 11:15am, and then another 3 hour class at 4:45 pm. Back at WSU, I was used to 50-minute classes, every other day. This was the first time I had taken courses that were only taught one time per week, which was (and still is) a game-changer for me.

As for the actual courses themselves, I am lucky enough to say that I am happy in each course and I know that they will each push me to levels of personal development that I am unaware of, even at this moment.

My two favorite classes are French and Business and Professional Writing. So far these two courses have been the ones to push me not only mentally but creatively as well. When I am in French, I feel like I actually belong in France. That may sound odd to some, because I am literally sitting in a classroom learning the language that is still foreign to me, but it’s true. A friend of mine and I leave the classroom every time wanting to continue the class all day. My Bus. & Prof. Writing class reminds me of the classes I am used to taking at home. My major is Communication and Public Relations, so I am writing all the time. The difference with this class is that we are learning how to write in a strictly professional setting—something that I think all students should learn how to do.

Back at home, I am used to having a set schedule of classes that happen more than once within a week. The adjustment is definitely a new experience for me, but I think that helped in making me more aware of what is going on around me. It is only the 3rd week here, so I can’t say much yet, but I am excited to see what the future holds!
