Forget Starbucks: Where to get Coffee in Madrid

Coming to a new city and losing your favorite coffee or tea store at home can be tough. No place will ever take the place of your coffee shop, but here are 5 that have become new favorites for me.

1. La Bicicleta Café – Malasaña

La Bicicleta café is probably my favorite in Madrid. It is located in the trendy neighborhood of Malasaña which just enhances its charm. They feature an extensive food and drink menu, wifi, and an artsy, relaxed atmosphere that you cannot find anywhere else.

2. Caffe – Malasaña (para llevar)

I have chosen also in Malasaña, a cute café that specializes in café para llevar (which can be difficult to find). Caffe has a daily menu as well as standard coffees and homemade treats.

3. Cafelito – Lavapiés

Cafelito in Lavapiés is a hole in the wall shop with a big time feel. When ordering, you receive a teapot full of your beverage and even the water is poured from a giant pot. They also give wifi and are nice enough to spell it for you.

4. Lolina Café – Tribunal

Lolina café is located in Tribunal, next to a variety of activities including vintage shopping and yoga.

5. Café Moderno – San Bernardo

Finally Café Moderno is the hidden gem of San Bernardo. The café is quite large and open making it a great meeting place for a project or just a great group of friends. The coffee and atmosphere at each place is amazing and slightly different from the rest, making each one a must see.
