Environmental Sciences: A CEA MOJOs Perspective on Field Studies

The reason I chose Costa Rica for my study abroad experience was the large biodiversity. This made for an awesome environmental science program. One of the unique attributes to this program is hands on learning. The students get to actively participate in the subjects they study. Here is a look into some of my field trips while studying abroad.

Tropical Ecology and Ecological Photography classes took us into a biological station called La Selva to study the species that call the rainforest home.

We participated in a night walk in order to find nocturnal animals such as this Red Eyed Tree Frog

We got up close and personal with different native species some which were poisonous like this Blue Jean Frog

We used different photography techniques in the field and spent plenty of time with our subjects.

The interactive learning was far beyond anything you can learn in the classroom

Our environmental awareness class took a field trip to a sustainable organic farming community. We helped with some agriculture projects.

We learned the different methods in organic farming

We learned by getting our hands dirty

This Central American Pit Viper was in the trail of La Amistad international park. We got up close and personal and were able to learn about some of the communities research projects.

Our teacher was right there with us during the whole process

In La Amistad learning about different flora and fauna
