Today we took off on a boat from the Cannes harbor to an island just off the coast called Île Sainte-Marguerite. The weather was sunny and gorgeous for our CEA excursion.
First we walked up to the old prison which is now a museum on the island. Many famous prisoners were confined here including the man in the iron mask.
Besides being a museum, this historic prison has become a hostel and small aquarium. We walked through the old prison cells and also saw many ancient Roman artifacts as the Romans were the first to inhabit the island.
Next we walked across the island on one of the many walking trails that crisscross the island.
The island is covered in eucalyptus, umbrella pine, and cherry trees.
This side of the island was facing away from the mainland of France. We could see another smaller island across the sea which is home to a community of monks.
We laid out on the beach and soaked in some sun.
The water was so clear and beautiful shades of blue.
The island is heavily wooded with only about twenty buildings scattered throughout.
After a few hours of fun in the Riviera sunshine we headed back home.
