Study abroad service provider CEA Study Abroad is proud to announce its new Diversity Scholarship, now available to all CEA program student participants. Applications for all CEA study abroad scholarships are currently being accepted for Spring 2012.
The Diversity Scholarship originated from a desire to promote diversity in CEA programs, and increase access to students who are historically underrepresented in study abroad. Applicants may qualify to receive up to $1,000 – up to $3,000 for the highest scoring applicant awarded with distinction.
“Our commitment includes, but is not limited to, ethnic minority students, male students, students from diverse economic backgrounds, GLBT students, and students from underrepresented majors," said Kathleen Ellwood, Director of University Relations East. CEA’s programs facilitate equal opportunities for academic achievement, global competence and personal growth for all its students."
Requirements for the Diversity Scholarship include a GPA of 2.5 or higher, a letter of recommendation from an academic reference, a scholarship application form, a scholarship academic recommendation form and a 400- to 500-word essay. This year's inaugural Diversity Scholarship asks students to reflect on the following prompt:
“Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry, but by demonstrating that all peoples cry, laugh, eat, worry, and die, it can introduce the idea that if we try and understand each other, we may even become friends.” – Maya Angelou
Scholarship applicants must have applied for a qualifying CEA study abroad program, be confirmed in their program within 30 days of submitting their scholarship materials, and be currently enrolled at a U.S. or Canadian college or university.
