In this program, you’ll take courses at both the CEA CAPA Prague Study Center and at our local partner institution Charles University, one of the most prestigious universities in Central Europe. Your courses at Charles University will be selected from the East and Central European Studies (ECES) offerings which include a selection of courses in the humanities, arts, social sciences and more, and all are taught in English. You’ll round out your semester with courses at the CEA CAPA Prague Center in complementary disciplines such as business, economics, communication and more. The Prague Center also offers unique courses that bring the diverse history, culture, and art of the Czech Republic to life. Charles University was founded in 1348 and is considered one of the best-rated Czech universities according to international rankings.. The university consists of 17 colleges and enrolls more than 50,000 students. Faculties and departments are spread throughout Prague - as a CEA CAPA student you’ll take courses at the Faculty of Arts’s Eastern and Central European Studies Department (ECES), located in Prague’s Old Town district.
The coursework is designed specifically for international undergraduate students and allows you to explore a variety of subject areas, including Literature, Art and Culture, History, Sociology, Psychology, Economics, Politics, Languages, and more. All courses, with the exception of Czech language, are taught in English.
Credit Transfer Information
CEA CAPA credit hour recommendations are based on the following conversion: 15 contact hours equals 1 U.S. credit. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Students receive a transcript from Charles University upon successful completion of the program. The transcript reflects contact hours.

Charles University is recognized by the Czech Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports as a degree granting institution in the Czech Republic.
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.
Please note that CEA CAPA can only recommend grade conversions to students’ home institutions—it is ultimately at the discretion of the home institution to convert grades from abroad to students’ academic records.

Classroom and Information
Charles University faculty is international and experienced in integrating American and European students in an American-style learning environment.
Attendance is mandatory and monitored by professors and Charles University academic staff.
Average class size is approximately 19 students and classes are capped at 28 students. Some specialized classes may be smaller; some general courses may be slightly larger.
CEA CAPA students attend classes alongside other international students. The student body typically represents 60 different nationalities.

CEA CAPA Prague Center
The CEA CAPA Prague Center is located in the historic Old Town district. Courses give you the opportunity to further your academic pursuits in a variety of subjects with Prague as your classroom.
Courses bring the diverse history, politics, culture, economics, and art of the Czech Republic to life, incorporating components that expose you to different elements of Prague, from monuments and museums to businesses, local food markets, and government agencies. You’ll be encouraged to explore on your own and draw connections between the subjects you study and the observations you make outside of the classroom. Not only will you get to know your host city, you’ll also gain insight into how the Czech Republic fits into the larger European context.

Courses at the CEA CAPA Prague Center are transcripted by the University of New Haven (UNH), CEA CAPA’s School of Record.
Accreditation
Courses taught at the CEA CAPA Prague Center have been designed in conjunction with, and approved by, the University of New Haven (UNH). In addition, faculty appointments have been approved by UNH. After the successful completion of a session at the CEA CAPA Prague Center, you will receive credit for your work from UNH. Located in Connecticut, the University of New Haven is a student-focused, comprehensive university that’s fully accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The agreement between CEA CAPA and UNH follows the highest standards of good practice in education abroad and satisfies the rigorous requirements of the University's institutional accreditor, making credits earned at the CEA CAPA Prague Center easily transferable to US-accredited institutions. Grading
Professors at the CEA CAPA Prague Center carefully evaluate student's work and progress throughout their academic session. When calculating final grades, instructors consider written and oral exercises, homework assignments, attendance, classroom participation, and exam performance.

You’ll enroll in 2 - 3 CEA CAPA courses and 2 Charles courses.
CEA CAPA courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 semester credits, Charles University courses meet for 52 contact hours/3 semester credits. Students may earn 12–15 semester credits (up to 239 contact hours) credits per semester. Classes meet at various times, Monday through Friday.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses. You will be enrolled into courses based on availability and further changes can be made during the add/drop period at the beginning of the semester. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Independent Living
While CEA CAPA recommends that you choose one of our Prague housing options, you may opt to arrange independent housing. If your ideal housing scenario includes a more independent living situation with specific criteria – such as many roommates, location, décor, size, etc. – then independent housing might be the best option for you. Unfortunately, CEA CAPA cannot guarantee housing preferences.
Use the online housing application form to request permission for this option no later than the application closure date. You will receive a rebate for your CEA housing payment if and when your request is approved. Rebates are not granted to students who move out of their CEA CAPA housing or who pursue independent living arrangements after the application closure date. Keep in mind, CEA CAPA will not provide you with any assistance setting up independent housing and you will not be eligible for the airport pick-up or any housing assistance during the semester.
