Located on the fringes of Dublin in Ireland’s only university town, Maynooth University is part of the National University of Ireland. Maynooth University is part of the National University of Ireland, and an up-and-coming research university, with 500+ externally funded research projects and seven cutting-edge research institutes on campus. Considered one of the global top 100 universities under 50-years old, by Times Higher Education, Maynooth has also been ranked number 351 worldwide overall and is recognized as Ireland’s friendliest college.
Maynooth offers study abroad students access to a diverse and flexible curriculum in a wide variety of departments, including arts, humanities, social sciences, music, science, and engineering, as well as programs in Irish cultural heritage.
The campus is located outside of Dublin, easily accessible by public transportation.
Credit Transfer Information
Maynooth University awards credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) system. CEA CAPA credit hour recommendations are based on the following conversion: 2 ECTS credits equals 1 U.S. semester credit. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Students receive a transcript from Maynooth University upon successful completion of the program. The transcript will reflect ECTS credits.

Classroom and Information
- Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in some classes is mandatory and monitored by professors.
- Teaching styles in Ireland may be different from those found in the U.S. or Canada. Be prepared to adapt to different classroom structures and coursework expectations for your school.
- Class size ranges between 15 and 30 students for upper division courses, and between 50 and 300 students for lectures.
- You will be in class with CEA CAPA participants, other international students, and Irish students.

Navigating the Maynooth University of Ireland Website for Courses
- Irish institutions use different terms when discussing departments, majors, courses, etc. These will be important to know when reviewing the academic options on the program: Department = Faculty; Courses/Class = Module
- Students pre-register for modules before the semester starts and officially register once on campus.
- CEA CAPA recommend securing academic approval of 8-10 courses prior to departing for the program. Students should take no more than 30 ECTS credits (15 US credits), which is 5 modules.
