This versatile program allows you to choose from a range of business electives at either Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) or Pompeu Fabra University (UPF). Complete your experience with CEA CAPA Barcelona Center electives that take full advantage of the Center's location in the heart of the city and allow you to delve into Spanish culture, history, and society. Classes are taught in English and Spanish for all levels of Spanish language ability.

Pompeu Fabra University
Since it was founded in 1990, Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) has had two goals: to train responsible professionals and citizens who are committed to civic values, and to contribute to the development of research. UPF welcomes approximately 10,000 students each year, 800 of which are international, and offers coursework in three areas of knowledge: social sciences & humanities, information technology & coding, and health & life sciences. The university operates six campuses scattered around Barcelona's city center. CEA CAPA students take most classes at the campus located near Olympic Village.
Unlike most Spanish institutions, UPF follows a trimester-based academic calendar. The university prides itself on offering small class sizes, dedicated teaching staff, and advanced technological and information systems. Spanish language and elective courses for international students are instructed by university faculty in both Spanish and English through the Hispanic & European Studies Program, the Pre-Law Honors Program, and International Business. In addition, you may choose to take integrated courses in Humanities, Business, Communications, and more alongside Spanish students.
Credit Transfer Information
Pompeu Fabra University awards credits based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) system. CEA CAPA credit hour recommendations are based on the following conversion: 2 ECTS credits equals 1 U.S. semester credit. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Students receive a transcript from Pompeu Fabra University upon successful completion of the program. The transcript reflects ECTS credits.

Pompeu Fabra University is recognized by the Spanish Ministry of Education as a degree granting institution of higher learning, and holds accreditation from EQUIS (European Quality Improvement System) and AMBA (Association for MBA programs).
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.

Classroom and Information
- International faculty teach language courses and electives.
- Homework assignments and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- Teaching styles in Spain may differ from those in the U.S. Be prepared to adapt to UPF’s classroom structures and coursework expectations.
- Class size ranges from 10 to 20 students for language courses and a maximum of 35 students for electives. For those participating in the integrated option, the class size of regular university courses range from 15 to 80 students.
- You’ll take most classes with other U.S. students of equivalent language levels, not with native Spanish students. Students participating in the Integrated Studies program have the option to take courses with native Spanish students in both Spanish and English.

Accreditation
Courses taught at the CEA CAPA Barcelona Center have been designed in conjunction with, and approved by, the University of New Haven (UNH). In addition, faculty appointments have been approved by UNH. After the successful completion of a session at the CEA CAPA Barcelona Center, you will receive credit for your work from UNH. Located in Connecticut, the University of New Haven is a student-focused, comprehensive university that’s fully accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The agreement between CEA CAPA and UNH follows the highest standards of good practice in education abroad and satisfies the rigorous requirements of the University's institutional accreditor, making credits earned at the CEA CAPA Barcelona Center easily transferable to US-accredited institutions. Grading
Professors at the CEA CAPA Barcelona Center carefully evaluate students' work and progress throughout their academic session. When calculating final grades, instructors consider written and oral exercises, homework assignments, attendance, classroom participation, and exam performance.

Classroom and Information
- Classes are taught by international faculty.
- Classes meet daily, Monday – Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
- Most faculty are bilingual (Spanish/English) and represent a variety of different backgrounds.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- You’ll attend class with other CEA CAPA students of equivalent language levels, not with native Spanish students.
- Teaching styles in Spain may differ from those in the U.S. Be prepared to adapt to your school’s classroom structures and coursework expectations.
- The maximum class size is 15 students for language courses and 25 students for electives. Small class sizes mean more personalized attention from your instructors.

Program Structure & Courses
You'll enroll in 1 CEA CAPA core course, 1-3 CEA CAPA courses and 1-2 courses from either Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) or Pompeu Fabra University (UPF).
CEA CAPA and UAB courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. UPF elective courses meet for 32-45 contact hours/2-3 credits. Overall, you may earn 12-15 credits (up to 225 contact hours) over the semester and 24-30 credits (up to 450 contact hours) over the academic year.
Core and elective courses meet twice per week, Monday-Thursday. Courses at UPF typically meet 2-3 times per week while courses at UAB typically meet twice per week. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take an online language placement exam. If you choose to take electives at UPF in Spanish, you’ll take a language placement exam at UPF during orientation week. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. If you choose to take a Spanish language or elective course, to ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home university pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Spain. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

Perfect for students who want to immerse themselves in local life, these apartments are located in charming neighborhoods. Picture yourself strolling past some of Barcelona's most stunning landmarks on your way to and from your Spanish home. Ideal for easygoing students who prefer sharing a bedroom with one CEA CAPA peer, making new friends, and avoiding supplemental housing fees. Apartments are shared with 2–9 peers in other rooms.
Please note that there is a limited number of Shared Double A/C Rooms available. If you wish to be placed in a Shared Double A/C Room, please avoid grouping yourself with friends unless they also select the same supplemental fee option.

Most apartments combine single and double rooms, making them ideal for students who prefer a single bedroom within a shared apartment. Apartments are shared with 2–9 peers in other rooms.
