Consulting Project Focus Area: Digital Health
The Business Consulting program with associated experiential learning equips you to work as a practitioner in a real-world organization. In Barcelona, you’ll delve into the innovative field of Digital Health, where technology meets healthcare. Collaborating with your team, you’ll address challenges facing digital health enterprises, such as market entry strategies, technology integration, and patient engagement. This experience provides a hands-on approach to understanding how digital tools and platforms are transforming healthcare, giving you the opportunity to apply business, financial, and marketing strategies in a fast-growing industry.

CEA CAPA Barcelona Center
The CEA CAPA Barcelona Center provides an interdisciplinary liberal arts education in the heart of Barcelona, Spain. Courses are offered in both Spanish and English and give you the opportunity to both improve your language skills and further your academic pursuits in a variety of subjects with Barcelona as your classroom.
Courses bring the diverse history, politics, culture, economics, and art of Spain to life, incorporating components that expose you to different elements of the city, from monuments and museums to businesses, local food markets, and government agencies. You’ll be encouraged to explore on your own and draw connections between the subjects you study and the observations you make outside of the classroom. Not only will you get to know your host city, you’ll also gain insight into how Spain fits into the larger European context.
CEA CAPA Barcelona Center curriculum provides the tools and direction you need to both learn about Spain, and to reflect on your own country and culture. Expect to actively participate in classes, as faculty will facilitate your intellectual, cultural, and emotional growth through lively discussions.

Courses taught at the CEA CAPA Barcelona Center have been designed in conjunction with, and approved by, the University of New Haven (UNH). In addition, faculty appointments have been approved by UNH. After the successful completion of a session at the CEA CAPA Barcelona Center, you will receive credit for your work from UNH. Located in Connecticut, the University of New Haven is a student-focused, comprehensive university that’s fully accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). Professors at the CEA CAPA Barcelona Center carefully evaluate students' work and progress throughout their academic session. When calculating final grades, instructors consider written and oral exercises, homework assignments, attendance, classroom participation, and exam performance.

Classroom and Information
- Classes are taught by international faculty.
- Classes meet daily, Monday – Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
- Most faculty are bilingual (Spanish/English) and represent a variety of different backgrounds.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- You’ll attend class with other CEA CAPA students of equivalent language levels, not with native Spanish students.
- Teaching styles in Spain may differ from those in the U.S. Be prepared to adapt to your school’s classroom structures and coursework expectations.
- The maximum class size is 15 students for language courses and 25 students for electives. Small class sizes mean more personalized attention from your instructors.

Program Structure & Courses
The required Business Consulting course is comprised of both an academic course and a locally based business consulting project that will require you to meet with clients and conduct group work outside of class. You’ll have the opportunity to learn about your assigned company through in-person or virtual meetings and by visiting their facilities/operations, conducting market research, creating relationships, ideating proposals and solutions, all of which will culminate in a consulting proposal.
In addition to your 3-credit business consulting course and project, you will choose 1 CEA CAPA Core course and 2-3 additional CEA CAPA course to take from the catalog of course options available to you. This provides you with the opportunity to gain professional experience while also making progress toward your degree requirements and engaging in classes that afford a richer cultural experience.
Courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. Elective courses meet 2 times per week, Monday-Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays. Overall, students may earn 12-15 credits.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses and take an online language placement exam (if enrolling in a language course). You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. If you choose to take a Spanish language or elective course, to ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home university pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for Spain. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

CEA CAPA's apartments span neighborhoods like Les Corts, Eixample, Sagrada Familia, Gracia and Poble Nou. Stroll past some of this city's most beautiful treasures daily, as you walk to and from your Spanish abode. Most apartments combine single and double rooms. If you prefer to be placed in a single room within a shared apartment this is a good option for you. Students would share common living areas such as a kitchen and bathroom with other CEA CAPA students residing in the apartment.
Please note that there is a limited amount of single room availability. If you request a roommate, priority will be given to that request first over the specific housing type request.

Studios are located in a residencia - an apartment type building furnished with front desk service for all your housing inquiries. Specifically designed for local and international university students, residencias typically house 200 students and provide the privacy of an apartment (with kitchenettes and bathrooms in-suite) and the environment of student living. The residencia is located in the Poble Nou neighborhood and also includes a gym, modern study rooms, swimming pool, free breakfast to go from Monday to Friday, etc.

Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.

You will receive a finalized itinerary once you arrive onsite.
Note: Additional cultural activities/excursions or required course-related activities may be incorporated into your final itinerary. You are advised not to make personal travel arrangements until you have the final dates.

Arrival/Program Begins
Official Program Start Date. Students must arrive at the Josep Tarradellas airport on this date in order to be eligible for airport pickup. Students will then be transferred to their assigned housing. |

Federal law allows the use of financial aid to cover "reasonable" costs of study abroad including round-trip transportation, tuition and fees for the program, living costs, passport and visa fees, health insurance, and more.
