About the Program
Want to optimize your language learning by taking all your courses in French? Enroll in this immersive program, designed for all French language levels. Small class sizes and a broad liberal arts curriculum enhance your experience, allowing you to take elective courses focused on French culture and history. Language courses are offered at a range of fluency levels and for a range of credits. The Institut de Langue et de Culture Française faculty at the Institut Catholique de Paris specializes in teaching French to non-native speakers. You will attend class alongside other international students seeking to improve their French proficiency.

Institut Catholique de Paris
Institut Catholique de Paris, founded in 1875, is a private French university that has welcomed international students to its campus since 1948. Courses are held on the Institut Catholique campus in the 6th arrondissement, the heart of historical Paris. You’ll attend class just a stone's throw away from the Latin Quarter, Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and Montparnasse. The school is accredited by the French Ministry of Education, and is a member of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (FIUC). Students who successfully complete their program will be issued an official transcript by the Institut Catholique de Paris.
You’ll enroll in courses with other international students at the Institut de Langue et de Culture Françaises (ILCF), the Institut Catholique’s center for French Language and Culture. The professors at ILCF specialize in teaching French as a foreign language to students of all language levels. Out of a total student population of 30,000, there are approximately 3,500 foreign students, representing 120 countries and providing you the opportunity to meet students from around the world in one of Europe's most diverse and exciting cities.
Credit Transfer Information
The Institut Catholique de Paris utilizes a 60-minute contact hour whereas the United States higher education system utilizes a 50-minute contact hour. Recommended U.S. credits listed on CEA CAPA's website reflect a conversion of these contact hours. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
Transcript Information
Students receive a transcript from Institut Catholique de Paris upon successful completion of the program. Transcript includes the number of hours per week and the weeks in the semester, so US colleges/universities may calculate the appropriate number of US credits they choose to award their students.

Institut Catholique de Paris is monitored by the French Ministry of National Education and a member of the International Federation of Catholic Universities (FIUC).
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.
Please note that CEA CAPA can only recommend grade conversions to students’ home institutions—it is ultimately at the discretion of the home institution to convert grades from abroad to students’ academic records.

Classroom and Information
- Language and elective courses are taught by faculty at Institut Catholique de Paris through Institut de Langue et de Culture Françaises.
- Periodic homework assignments and examinations will be administered.
- Class attendance is mandatory and monitored by each professor. Institut Catholique regularly reports attendance records to CEA CAPA Paris.
- Course enrollment ranges from 10 to 25 students, allowing for personalized attention.
- Classes are specifically offered to be taken with other international students of equivalent language level and not with native French students.
- The French style of teaching differs from that in the U.S. Be prepared to adapt to different classroom structures and coursework expectations.

Program Structure & Courses
The structure of your program will be based on the language level at which you place on your language placement exam. The program is composed of French language courses, and/or language & culture electives. Based on your language level, you may be able to choose only a French language course, only French elective courses, or a combination of a French language course and French electives.
Language courses meet for 151 or 252 contact hours/10 or 16 credits; each elective course meets for 50 contact hours/3 credits. You may earn 16 credits (up to 252 contact hours) per semester and 32 credits (up to 504 contact hours) per academic year. You have the option to add contact hours to your program (extra fee will apply).
Language course schedules vary based on contact hours, elective courses meet once a week. Classes may be held in the morning or afternoon, Monday-Friday.
Prior to departure you will take an online language placement exam and select your courses. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability and the result of your placement exams. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. Studios are located in student residences that house approximately 200-300 local and international students in single or shared studios. The Studio residences are a typical housing solution for local students, both providing the privacy of an apartment
(with kitchenettes and bathrooms in-suite) and the environment of student living. The Studio residences are located in a several different neighborhoods across the city, including the 20th arrondissement, the 13th, 15th, and 17th, as well as in nearby St Mandé, Montreuil, Levallois, and Ivry. Living in a studio in Paris will provide you with a true sense of French student life, will allow you to cook your own meals at home, and meet up with other residents in your building.

Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions.
