Program Structure & Courses

You'll enroll in 1 language course at your level and 2 elective courses taught in French. Language courses meet for 40 contact hours/3 credits; electives meet for 20 contact hours/1 credit. You may earn a total of 5 credits (up to 80 contact hours).

Classes meet Monday-Friday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.

You’ll take a language placement test after you arrive in Grenoble. Registration will then be finalized on-site, based on the results of your language placement test. If you don’t test at the intermediate level or higher, you'll be moved to the Intensive Language Program (additional fees may apply). It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. To ensure that you receive credit for the language level you place into, have your home university pre-approve courses at several levels before you leave for France. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
