Spend your summer studying engineering and math concepts in Madrid, one of Europe’s fastest growing tech hubs. Math and elective courses are taught in English, so no Spanish is required, although there will be plenty of opportunities to develop your Spanish language skills as you explore this cosmopolitan capital city. The CEA CAPA Madrid Center was founded to make study abroad in Madrid more accessible to students from United States. The Center is located in a historical building in the heart of the city, just yards from the Puerta del Sol metro stop, and features three classrooms, administrative areas, and multi-purpose student space. The center’s location allows students to be well-connected and within walking distance of Madrid's main landmarks and attractions.
The CEA CAPA Madrid Center’s intentional course list offers a focus on business and communication — ideal for complementing internship placements —as well as courses that are designed to increase your understanding of the diverse history, politics, and culture of Spain. Through the courses, you’ll be exposed to elements of the city such as monuments, museums, businesses, local food markets, and government agencies.
Faculty teaching at the CEA CAPA Madrid Center uses the city as an extended classroom, allowing you to not only acquire discipline-specific knowledge, but also create intellectual links between your courses and the city. Courses will help you grow familiar with your new surroundings and gain insight into how Spain fits into a globalized context.

Accreditation
Courses taught at the CEA CAPA Madrid Center have been designed in conjunction with, and approved by, the University of New Haven (UNH). In addition, faculty appointments have been approved by UNH. After the successful completion of a session at the CEA CAPA Madrid Center, you will receive credit for your work from UNH. Located in Connecticut, the University of New Haven is a student-focused, comprehensive university that’s fully accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). The agreement between CEA CAPA and UNH follows the highest standards of good practice in education abroad and satisfies the rigorous requirements of the University's institutional accreditor, making credits earned at the CEA CAPA Madrid Center easily transferable to US-accredited institutions. Grading
Professors at the CEA CAPA Madrid Center carefully evaluate student's work and progress throughout their academic session. When calculating final grades, instructors consider written and oral exercises, homework assignments, attendance, classroom participation, and exam performance.

Classroom and Information
- Classes are taught by faculty selected by CEA CAPA and approved by UNH.
- Periodic homework assignments and final examinations will be administered.
- Class attendance is mandatory and monitored by each professor. You may access your grades and attendance on their CEA CAPA Student Portal.
- Class size is limited to 30, allowing for personalized attention.

Program Structure & Courses
It’s your choice: take 1 Engineering course, 2 Engineering courses, or 1 Engineering course and 1 elective course from the social studies or humanities.
Engineering courses meet for 45 or 60 contact hours (3 or 4 credits), and elective courses meet for 45 contact hours (3 credits). If you choose the 1-course option, you may earn 3-4 credits (45-60 contact hours); if you choose the 2-course option, you may earn 6-7 credits (90-105 contact hours).
Elective courses typically meet daily, Monday-Friday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure in case there are changes to course availability. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

All CEA CAPA students studying in Madrid have the option of living in a residencia while abroad. Residencias are off-campus accommodations located in the city of Madrid that house approximately 200 students. This housing option caters perfectly to students who want the peace and independence of having their own bedroom. The kitchen may be private and inside the bedroom or shared with the other students at the Residencia. Other common spaces are available. Living in a residencia will help students to immerse themselves in Spanish University life and culture and to be part of a huge University community, meeting national and international students.
Please note that Residencia A and Residencia B are not the same Residencia - they are located in different areas of the city. Theremay be more than one Residencia for each type. Please note that within the same Residencia rooms might not be contiguous or in the same floor and might be spread out within the Residencia.

Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions.
