In a city known for its cultural and social diversity and richness, Buenos Aires combines European style with its Latin heritage. As the capital city, it’s also the financial, industrial and commercial hub of Argentina, and home to more than 10 million residents. As an Engineering major, you’ll find this cosmopolitan city the ideal place to learn how to apply engineering solutions in a global context. Choose from courses available at the CEA CAPA Buenos Aires Center, or at the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (ITBA), regarded as one of the best engineering schools in Latin America. Please note, the ITBA course is currently only available in the summer session.

Founded in 1959, the Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (ITBA) was one of the first private universities created in Argentina. ITBA’s academic focus is dedicated to the teaching of interdisciplinary engineering fields and research. ITBA is a member of the prestigious Global Education Engineering Exchange (GE3).
Their mission
is to be a university committed to the development of the country and region by training and developing professionals in the areas of engineering, technology and management who are able to respond to the needs of society and technological advances.
ITBA enrolls approximately 1,650 students annually.
The main building is located in the trendy area of Puerto Madero, which represents the latest architectural trends in Buenos Aires. The university features modern facilities, computer labs,
libraries, and cultural and athletic activities to complement academics.
CEA CAPA students have access to the same facilities as Argentine students, allowing you to fully appreciate ITBA student life. By sharing the university with local and other international students, you’ll have the opportunity to meet and interact with your peers.
Credit Transfer Information
Contact hours and corresponding credits for the ITBA course were modeled after the U.S. system. Credit transfer is ultimately determined by your home university. Please consult with an academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.
Transcript Information
Students receive a transcript from Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (ITBA) upon successful completion of the program. Transcript includes the number of hours per week and the weeks so US colleges/universities may calculate the appropriate number of US credits they choose to award their students.
Accreditation
Instituto Tecnológico de Buenos Aires (ITBA) is accredited by the National Commission for Evaluation and University Accreditation by the Ministry of Education of Argentina.
Grading
Grade conversions from CEA CAPA partner institutions abroad to a US grading scale are determined in consultation with our School of Record and benchmarked with other peer institutions in the field.
Please note that CEA CAPA can only recommend grade conversions to students’ home institutions—it is ultimately at the discretion of the home institution to convert grades from abroad to students’ academic records.

Classroom and Information
- Faculty from ITBA teach your courses.
- All students are required to sign a code conduct to enroll at ITBA.
- Periodic exams, homework assignments, and final exams will be administered.
- Attendance in all classes is mandatory and monitored by each professor.
- Teaching styles in Argentina may differ from those in the U.S. Be prepared to adapt to different classroom structures and coursework expectations.
- Class size ranges between 10 and 25 students.
- You may attend class with local and other study abroad students.

Program Structure & Courses
Choose between the ITBA only option and CEA CAPA & ITBA Hybrid option:
- In the ITBA only option you'll enroll in one engineering/physics course.
- In the CEA CAPA & ITBA Hybrid option you'll enroll in 1 ITBA engineering/physics course and 1 CEA CAPA elective course.
Engineering course meets for 75 contact hours/5 credits and elective courses meet for 45 contact hours/3 credits. You may earn up to a total of 8 credits (up to 120 contact hours).
Classes meet 2-4 days per week, Monday-Thursday. Active learning components required by your courses may be scheduled for Fridays.
Prior to departure, you will select your preferred courses. You will be enrolled into courses based on their availability. It is in your best interest to have multiple alternative courses approved by your home university prior to your departure due to course availabilities. Please consult with your academic advisor at your home university on credit pre-approval guidelines.

All CEA CAPA students studying in Buenos Aires have the option of living in apartments while abroad. Generally located in downtown Palermo or Belgrano, or Recoleta/Barrio Norte neighborhoods these apartments cater to independent, do-it-yourself students who want to experience Buenos Aires as a local apartment-dweller would. Apartments vary in age, décor and size, from studio apartments to two bedrooms. So whip up some homemade empanadas in your fully equipped kitchen, crack open your window, and watch the Argentine world unfold before your eyes.

Experience Buenos Aires’ vibrant culture while living in a homestay. CEA CAPA homestays usually have one host mom - or a couple - who loves to have international students around. For the students who want to live life abroad in a local and international environment - usually with other students - the homestay is great, because it can give you the locals' insight into the city.

Excursions
Get out and explore! Excursions are offered for most semester, year, and summer programs. Semester students are typically offered between two to three excursions and summer study students are typically offered between one to two excursions. You'll receive a calendar of excursions during orientation; here are a few day and overnight excursions we've offered in the past.
