DESCRIPTION
This module addresses areas of engineering hydraulics, particularly relating to open channel flow and pipe flow; theoretical content will be augmented by worked examples.
Learning Outcomes 1.Acquire a high level of expertise in fluid flow over a range of conditions, both in open and closed conduits 2.Comprehend the nature of the flow of real (as distinct from ?ideal?) fluids, appreciating the hydraulic principles governing particular problems in fluid flow involving special scenarios or boundary conditions 3.Acquire the ability to select the equations (based on the scientific principles of conservation of mass flux, energy flux and momentum flux, and on empirical results) and the numerical algorithms required to solve specific hydraulic problems, appreciating the implications of the assumptions used and the associated uncertainties. 4.Develop EXCEL-based solutions to hydraulic problem 5.Apply hydraulic analysis to real world problems 6.Analyse/design water distribution and systems, including pumps and valves. 7.Understand the relative importance between friction and minor head losses
