DESCRIPTION
This module provides details of the stages and operations involved in a construction project from a number of different perspectives: local authority, civil engineering consultant, civil engineering contractor and architect.
Learning Outcomes 1.Describe the project participants in a civil engineering project and explain their respective roles 2.List the contract documents required in tendering for a civil engineering project 3.Describe the estimation of project costs, interim valuation and certification, bill of quantities and the determination of a project 4.Identify and describe measures needed to ensure health and safety on site 5.Appreciate the main provisions of the Construction Contracts Act 2013 6.Apply high ethical standards in dealing with planning and construction issues, and understand the importance of sustainable practice 7.Recognise the importance of effective communication with the public in planning and development issues 8.Understand the interaction between architects, civil engineers and other professionals 9.List the information to be included on civil engineering drawings 10.List the work elements involved in preparing a consulting engineer?s or architect?s brief 11.Prepare a procurement plan 12.Prepare a programme/schedule for a project 13.Understand the legal environment and constraints on decision making
