DESCRIPTION

Module on basic analogue electronic devices, circuits and applications.

Learning Outcomes
1. Communicate the principles of operation of basic electronic devices and their applications, including diodes, transistors, operational amplifiers and sensors.
2. Identify the function and analyse the performance of circuits consisting of combinations of diodes, resistors and capacitors, using electrical circuit analysis techniques. This includes determining the waveshape of output voltages and currents in response to given input stimuli.
3. Design and analyse the performance of basic functional circuits using various combinations of diodes, resistors and capacitors.
4. Determine and interpret DC bias values of different transistor (BJT, MOSFET, JFET) amplifier circuits through circuit analysis.
5. Determine and analyse the response of a range of transistor amplifier circuits under AC conditions using transistor AC models and circuit analysis techniques, including the Box Model, and evaluate the steady-state performance of transistor amplifier circuits using measured or predicted results of circuit performance.
6. Apply transistor parameters to determine the frequency response of amplifier circuits based on bipolar junction transistors (BJTs).
7. Identify the function and analyse the performance of operational amplifier circuits that include resistors and capacitors, using appropriate models and circuit analysis techniques.
8. Design and analyse the performance of a range of circuits using operational amplifiers, resistors and capacitors. Circuit applications include amplifiers, active filters and basic signal processing functions.
