DESCRIPTION
Learning Outcomes 1. Determine thermodynamic properties of fluids and solids. 2. State and explain the First and Second Laws of Thermodynamics. 3. Analyse energy transfer and conversion in devices such as pumps, compressors, turbines, boilers and heat exchangers, using the First Law. 4. Calculate the performance of the Rankine cycle and the vapour-compression refrigeration cycle, and design cycles to attain specified performance. 5. Calculate heat transfer rates and temperatures in simple cases of conductive, convective and radiative heat transfer. 6. Carry out design sizing calculations for cooling fins and heat exchangers. 7. Conduct, analyse and report on experiments to investigate heat transfer and thermodynamic processes, and evaluate the performance of thermal systems.
