DESCRIPTION

Knowledge: Understand the fundamental economic problem of scarcity; understand demand and supply analysis, market mechanisms and consequences of government intervention; understand analysis of the firm and the working of the firm and industry within different market structures - perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, monopoly; understand specific contexts where markets are efficient and others where they fail.
Skills: Acquire graphical and other analytical skills and methods useful in problem-solving in the context of economic theory; develop the ability to choose and apply appropriate analytical tools.
Perspectives: Appreciate differences in the role of government in current market economies; appreciate the current dominant market structures and their consequences; appreciate the power of incentives to change behavior at individual and firm levels.
