Tourism has become a major world industry and the relationship between tourism and economic development has been proved; however, its effects, on a community and/or a destination, have become an important aspect to make the tourism sector attractive; that explains why sustainability is so relevant and plays a determinant role in a certain territory. Consequently, the relationship between territory, tourism and sustainability is a critical point for the development of a territory. This course focuses on fundamental concepts of sustainability as well as its application to sustainable destination planning, development and management of all forms of tourism, leisure and events. The course will provide students with a theoretical and practical understanding of Ecological, Social, Cultural and Economic Sustainability and its prospects for being successfully implemented at different scales and / or in developed and developing countries or regions. Case studies presented at different scales: local / regional, national and international.
