DESCRIPTION
The course will focus on main characteristics of important architectural styles found in Prague and thus also give a general overview of western architecture since the early medieval period till present time. Although the course will focus on architecture since early medieval period introduction to Ancient Greek and Roman architecture will start the course for better understanding of western architecture. Chosen pieces of architecture will be also considered from the perspective of style, political representation, cultural meaning and function. The aim is to give students an understanding of architecture as a product of its own age. The classroom lectures will be combined with regular excursions throughout the city.
