DESCRIPTION

This seminar course will explore art and cultural theories and discourses in order to expose the students to critical discourse, essays, book excerpts, as well as to contemporary art exhibitions/events. The shows and the analysis of the work of some artists -not only visual -will be used as tools to apprehend contemporary art and connect different approaches to art making/thinking which will be discussed in class, emphasizing the fact that visuality is no longer a valid distinction. Contemporary, postmodern Art will be discussed as a new category, implying a theoretical search, instead of being considered just as a new chapter in Art History after Modern Art (ie, instead of being considered almost as a new genre or style). Students will be able to perceive Art and Cultural Theory not only as an abstract reflection of/on the (Art) world, but as an indiscernible component of it.
