DESCRIPTION
This is an introductory module to Chinese cinema focusing on the post-Cultural Revolution period to the present day to provide insight into contemporary Chinese society. It will combine a study of Chinese cinematography with beginner Chinese language and an exploration of key themes in broader Chinese culture.
The Chinese cinematography component of the module will analyse contemporary Chinese cinema as a visual art and illustrate the ways in which it has been shaped by Chinese cultural, social and political trends over the past three decades and in turn what Chinese films tell us about present day China.
