DESCRIPTION
The aim of this unit is to introduce students to the history and development of Hollywood Cinema. The Unit will allow students to extend their knowledge and understanding of the growth of the film industry and their interpretation of image and meaning in film gained at Level 1. This Unit will focus on all aspects of Hollywood Cinema including production, distribution, exhibition and audiences. It will go on to explore the relationship between Hollywood and Independent American Cinema and explore the latter in terms of an alternative representational mode to Hollywood. Students will also be given the opportunity to view a wide range of Hollywood films and to critically evaluate such films in relation to the major themes of the Unit.
