DESCRIPTION

This module provides students with the opportunity to develop and reflect on a writing project with some of the real life constraints of a professional writing career, including drafting, re-writing, and responding to critical feedback, meeting deadlines, using Wordpress, designing, editing, subediting and finding images for your work. The aim of the unit is to give students experience of the discipline of writing in a professional setting. In this case the brief will be to plan, edit, contribute to and publish an online literary magazine, The South Bank Review. The brief will require students to produce a portfolio piece as well as a shorter piece in different narrative and poetic forms, which will then be published in the online magazine. Students will be required to take the work through at least two drafts; to contribute to the production of the magazine through editing, subbing and uploading copy; and to participate in a series of small group seminars and individual tutorials focused on the work in progress. The final mark will reflect not only the quality of the portfolio piece presented, but also the level of engagement in and involvement with the production of the magazine, and shorter pieces submitted to it.
