DESCRIPTION
What does it mean to stage a cultural story? How do iconic plays both create and reinforce ideas of national or cultural identities? How do works by diverse voices challenge cultural stereotypes? The content of this course will employ a cultural studies and performative theory approach to exploring the development and representation of both British and American identity through the lens of drama. The course will include a selection of plays and films adapted from plays, read and attended, culminating in a final presentation and paper. Students will attend multiple theatrical productions in London as part of the class.
