DESCRIPTION

There are few things in the world as widely loved as sports, making it a much-sought after industry. An estimated 1 billion viewers watched the 2014 World Cup final, and the current US television rights deal for the Olympics set at an all-time high with the acquisition price of $7.75 billion dollars. Marketers understand the popularity of sports and have made them a centerpiece of marketing campaigns for decades. As the size and popularity of professional sport has grown, the field of sports marketing has grown with it.

This course provides an overview of sports marketing as a vital component of the marketing sector. As a student in this course, you will study the history and contemporary application of sports marketing through a variety of sectors. The course will address corporate as well as sporting property use of sports marketing strategies to achieve business objectives. We will explore sports marketing strategies within the context of special sporting event sponsorships and professional sports teams as well as governing organizations, sports media (broadcast, print, and Internet), licensing, and hospitality.

You will have the opportunity to explore these concepts both theoretically in-class as well as practically through onsite field studies.

*This course is currently pending approval from the University of New Haven
