DESCRIPTION

The Provence region is an original geographic area: a large opening on the Mediterranean Sea, a contrasted climate and various landscapes ranging from the plains of the Rhone river linking Provence to Northern Europe to the mountains of the Alps. This specific landscape largely explains the human settlement. The history of Provence is very rich and ancient. Complex human cultures crossed the Mediterranean and the European influences, from the Gauls to Greeks and the Romans, creating an original culture. This course introduces the history of Provence by the study of local art (painting and sculpture) as monuments.
