Special attention will be given to conditions of patronage and to an understanding of the impact that contemporary political, cultural and religious changes had on art production in Florence. The course will also examine the most relevant aspect of the art historical debate over the definition of Mannerism, thus providing students with a strong theoretical framework. Visits in Florence will constitute an integral part of the course.
