ART/ARH 303 Modern Art: Rebels and Icons

This course explores the dynamic landscape of modern art, focusing on both celebrated movements and the works of artists who operated outside the mainstream, with particular attention to the contributions of women artists. From Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism, students will study key artistic developments while also uncovering lesser-known artists and movements that challenged and expanded the boundaries of modern art. The course will emphasize the social, cultural, and political contexts that shaped these diverse artistic practices, highlighting the often-overlooked impact of women in the evolution of modern art.
