DESCRIPTION
This course consists of two parts: five study and career sessions and the Project Applied Mathematics.
During the study and career sessions the students acquaint with the job market and the possibilities for further studies. This is done by interviewing people from the work field, vacancy analysis, writing or improving CVs, attending an Inhouse day, a SWOT analysis and by writing a final reflection on all these activities.
During the Project Applied Mathematics students study a mathematical topic in groups of two. They are guided by one of the lecturers of the Mathematics Department, and have regular meetings with their supervisor. Before the start of period 6, they choose a topic in consultation with their fellow student and their supervisor (a list of possible topics is provided). During period 6 they study the selected material, write a thesis and give an oral presentation.
Contact hours listed under a course description may vary due to the combination of lecture-based and independent work required for each course therefore, CEA's recommended credits are based on the ECTS credits assigned by VU Amsterdam. 1 ECTS equals 28 contact hours assigned by VU Amsterdam.
