DESCRIPTION

This course provides the student with an introduction to the concept of sustainable development and specifically consumption and production (SCP)1 recognized by the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20) in 2012 as being "one of three general objectives and indispensable requirements for sustainable development [and that] fundamental changes in the way societies produce and consume are indispensable for achieving global sustainable development". It was at this conference that the 10-Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production Patterns (10YFP)2 was adopted. This was followed in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly?s adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)3, goal 12 of which being Sustainable Consumption and Production.
