DESCRIPTION

This course is an introduction to the varied influences the Islamic culture has had on Spain's history, language, architecture and culture. The curriculum is divided into two parts. First, a general description of the Arab-Islamic world and culture will be explored. Second, the Arab-Islamic history in Spain, and more specifically in Andalucia, will be examined. Topics covered include Mohammad, origins of the Islamic religion, the Koran, and Andalusia under Islamic rule. Students may be required to attend occasional cultural activities or to visit Granada sites such as the Alhambra.
