DESCRIPTION

Madrid is a capital city that moves with the heartbeat of the centuries. Witness, and protagonist of the most intriguing chapters of history. Thus, taking the city as a natural extension of history, this course will provide the student with a deep understanding of the reality of Madrid from different perspectives.

The History-related content of the course traces Madrid's history back to pre-Roman times and the Middle Ages with its Islamic foundation, to the Habsburg Empire and the glorious period of the Bourbon dynasty, and, finally, to the Civil War, the dictatorship and the transition to democracy. The class will explore the different areas and districts of the city to live a hands-on experience of each historical period.

With these strong foundations, students will have the required knowledge and abilities to navigate modern Madrid's politics, society, culture and economy.
