DESCRIPTION
This class focuses on the history and theory of contemporary art from the 1960s to today. It is dedicated to the exploration and discussion of key developments of contemporary art, such as Minimal Art, Conceptual Art, Performance Art, Participatory Art, Installation Art, Video Art and Digital Art. The increasingly global nature of contemporary art will also be addressed. While a major part of the class consists of lectures and seminars dedicated to the discussion of key literature, students will also choose an individual research topic (an artwork, art project, or series of work) to train their individual research skills.
Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) awards credits based on the ECTS system. Contact hours listed under a course description may vary due to the combination of lecture-based and independent work required for each course therefore, CEA's recommended credits are based on the ECTS credits assigned by VU Amsterdam. 1 ECTS equals 28 contact hours assigned by VU Amsterdam.
